Book Review : Traditional Palestinian Embroidery and Jewelry
Book Name: Traditional Palestinian Embroidery and Jewelry
Author: Abed Al-Samih Abu Omar
Language: English and Arabic
The Book basically talks about traditional Palestinian clothes and jewelry in different Palestinian cities and villages. It briefly describes the city or village, the type of dresses or clothes they used, the fabrics they used, the colors of the fabric, the embroidery threads, and patterns and what it meant in that area. It also quickly mentions whether you wear these dresses with certain jewelry or a veil, etc, and if special designs or dresses were made for special occasions.
Pros:
The book contains some nice images . You can get some ideas for embroidered pieces and jewelry to make, however it’s not an embroidery pattern book.
The book mentions the dresses names in some of these cities or villages, and the fabric used in these dresses.
Cons:
There’s no details, kind of. Sometimes it just lists the names without any details or description. The introduction about the village/city is very short, general, and wasn’t new or interesting for me as a Palestinian girl.
Most of the pictures are too small, and you cannot see the embroidered areas clearly.
The captioning format is inconsistent.
