Embroidery Needles and Other Tools Used in Palestinian Embroidery

Hello my beautiful friends! In a previous post we talked about embroidery threads and fabric used in Palestinian embroidery. In this post we will continue this series of posts by talking about embroidery needles and other tools used in Palestinian embroidery.

Embroidery needles

  • Embroidery needles number 22. These needles are best to use with 2 or 3 threads of embroidery floss number 25, or one thread of embroidery thread ball number 8.

  • Embroidery needles number 24, or number 7. These needles are best to use with fabrics like silk or any other fabric that would be difficult to use the previous needles on.

  • I used needles from both DMC and Tulip. I personally tend to prefer using Tulip needles.

Scissors

  • All purpose or fabric scissors to cut fabric and threads.

  • Embroidery scissors to cut threads.

Thimbles

Thimbles are usually used to protect the middle finger from the needle, because usually that is the finger that we use to push the needle into the fabric. It’s available in many different kinds and forms, some are metal, some are plastic, etc

Patterns/Motifs

Patterns are drawings on graph papers with a chart explaining colors, stitches, size of the fabric needed to make it, etc. We will talk about patterns/motifs in a future post.

Transfer pens, transfer pencils and tracing papers

You can use these to transfer or trace your own design on fabric. You can use water soluble pencils like DMC transfer pencils or Clover water soluble pencils. You can check out embroidery transfer pens too. Also you can use tracing papers like DMC transfer/ tracing Paper to trace your design on the fabric. I will show you different ways to transfer or draw your own designs on fabric, but that is a topic to be discussed in a separate post.

Hoops

You can use hoops to keep the fabric tight while you embroider. Some people use it to frame their finished work . Hoops are available in different shapes and sizes.

I think that’s it for today’s post. Those are the tools that we can use , as you can see some are necessary and some are optional. Whether you want to have them all or not is totally up to you.

Please if you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask, and feel free to leave your opinions and comments in the comments section below.

I’ll see you in the next one, love you <3
